Amy & Zach – Tenterfield April 2013
Photographer Sunlit Studios

Amy and Zach were married in Tenterfield, 20th April 2013. They chose Tenterfield for a very special reason, they also chose the date for the same reason.

It wasn’t anything to do with family and friends, or a date that had special meaning to them.

It was a ‘magical’ display put on by nature that they were looking for, that can only been seen for a couple of perfectly timed weeks every year.

I wouldn’t do this ‘magical’ display any justice by trying to describe it with words. Instead I will let Amy and Zach’s wedding photos show you exactly why they picked Tenterfield and their wedding date

They timed their wedding day to coincide with AUTUMN and the ‘magical’ display our trees put on every year for the few weeks at the end of April and the beginning of May. Timed perfectly to still have the colour on the trees but some leaves had fallen. Makes for some pretty amazing photos captured by Sunlit Studios.

Amy and Zach didn’t just rely on the Autumn display to make their day perfect. They put together a rustic, DIY, fun celebration for all their family and friends. Again I will leave it to the photos to tell the story of their PERFECT day!

Bald Rock – a hidden treasure

baldrockone

For your wedding or event you want something unique.  And there are many things that are unique about this area.  As someone who is so new to this area I am still taken aback by what it has to offer.

It still shocks me a little, that  for much of my life living in Brisbane or the Gold Coast I knew nothing of what is here.   All of this beauty, history and natural charm was only on my doorstep and I literally had no idea.

So a lesson is to be learned.  At least for me that is – don’t be surprised what you might come across in this extraordinarily beautiful place that we call Tenterfield Shire!

When you are thinking about a wedding so often now – it is not just the wedding.  It can be the lead-up, the post-wedding celebrations and of course the hens and bucks nights that so often are a part of your big wedding celebration.

So let me introduce you to Bald Rock.  Now you have not seen Oprah Winfrey standing on top of this one.  But in my mind this is the one she should have visited!

baldrockthree

Bald Rock National Park is a national park in northern NSW, Australia, just north of Tenterfield on the Queensland border.   On the other side of the border the national park continues as the Girraween National Park.

Now what is amazing information here, is the feature of Bald Rock National park  – Bald Rock.  It is a large granite outcrop rising about 200 metres above the surrounding landscape.  Measuring about 750 metres long and 500 metres wide – this is the largest granite monolith in Australia.   That is right – it is the largest in Australia.   If only Oprah had of known!

It is one of our area’s greatest, most beautiful natural gifts.

Two tracks are marked, a steep one up the exposed face or an easier gradient through bushland around the back.  The summit offers panoramic views which are truly extraordinary.

baldrocktwo

The day I climbed the rock (I was with my two five year olds!) we took the slow way up and the steep way down.   About a 3 hour round trip all up.   I must admit, it is the way I would recommend. On the slow way up there are balancing rock arches and formations that you wind your way through.  And if you are a romantic soul like myself you can imagine that you are one of the ethereal creatures from Joan Lindsay’s ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock”.  It is a novel and a movie that has always remained in my brain – you just need a good sound track and a white cotton dress to put yourself right there!

At the base of the rock are pristine picnic areas – perfect for a picnic party and some amazing photos.

So what does it mean for you and your wedding.

It means so many things.  Something unique.   Photo opportunities  – nothing like a bride in a stunning gown with a back-drop of granite.   It means picnic parties for your wedding group.  It means a challenge for your hen and bucks night.

It simply means that Tenterfield offers more!

Winter Wedding Wonderland

CRwintercoupleinfrontoffireplace

There is something truly unique about a Winter Wedding.   For someone who is still so new to Tenterfield and this amazingly beautiful area, I still am a bit overwhelmed by all that this area in this winter season has to offer.   The opportunities are simply endless, incredibly beautiful, one of a kind and of course romantic and magical!

Thank you again to Cory Rossiter for providing these stunning images.

The Cold:

Quite simply winter is cold!   It is a cold that I can’t remember experiencing after living 5 years in England.  It is clear and crisp and so cold some mornings it takes your breathe away.  Saying that, the cold also brings something that is  incredibly beautiful.  And if your guests are not locals it will be something that is unique, very much a talking point and a chance to get out those beautiful coats, hats, scarves and gloves!

For the bride and groom it means a full morning suit without slowly dying of heat exhaustion.

For the bride it means exquisite wraps and accessories.  Anything goes in a winter wedding!

CRwinterbride

The cold means unusual additions to your menu such as mulled wine to start and warm puddings that makes everyone think of home.

It also means that you can farewell your guests to a huge roaring bon-fire – a night that you and your guests will never forget.

Photo Opportunities:

Winter in Tenterfield, the Granite Belt and our surrounding shire means photo opportunities!

CRwintercoupledownroad

The stark beauty of ghostly trees against crystal blue winter skies.   Stormy clouds against the beauty of country roads.  Umbrellas used as fun props.   Once again anything goes!

CRwintercouplekissin

With mountains and granite boulders.  The amazingly beautiful panoramas of parks in winter.  Acres of winter grape vines or hail netting draped across sleeping crops.   Crystal clear creeks and waterfalls with our amazing winter skies.

Venues, Food and places to stay!

Our venues are geared up for the cold and what can be more welcoming to bride, groom or guest than a roaring log fire.  Also what can be more romantic.

It is an excuse also to take advantage of the amazing produce that this area has to offer and to let your venues come up with mouth-wateringly delicious winter fare.

Then it is home for the night – as bride and groom – winter provides yet another excuse to keep warm!
